Pubcon Day 1, 2nd Session, Smart Organic Keyword Research and Selection

Keyword Research is always 1st Point on SEO 101. Actually even before a business starts or create a product, brand, merchandising, registering a domain name, incorporating a company, trademark etc.

The session for Smart Organic Keyword Research and Selection here at 2010 Pubcon in Las Vegas was awesome. Just some idea triggers. More things to do. Side Note: Please contact me if you have a Human Cloning Company :) . I need some clones made, atleast one more of me.

The speakers in this session were Wil Reynolds, Craig Paddock, Carolyn Shelby, Mark Jackson and was moderated by Joe Laratro. Overall Session Rating: Very Good

Carolyn shared some nice ideas about ABC’s of Keyword Research. A is for Analytics, B is for Brainstorming and C is for Crunch. It makes sense. Dump all keywords into a master list and then worry about refining them at a later stage. Use Google Analytics or whatever web analytic tools you use to get some initial keywords. Mark your keywords or divide your spreadsheet into 2 parts, one that you can target with existing content and the other one that can’t be supported by existing content, which means this can be used for future content ideas, content generation. I would like to add, Don’t forget data from your PPC Campaigns and Use data from Site Search. Very Very Important.

Will shared a lot of tools. The one I love that I did not know about is Soovle. Throw in a keyword and it searches for related/similar searches at Google, Amazon, Yahoo, Live, Youtube, Answers, Wikipedia. The others are tools that most know of like the Google Keyword Tool. A not so known but useful tool for Google Suggest Keyword Ideas is Übersuggest. Just Google it, You’ll find it. There’s also a lot of useful data in Google Trends. Also check Wonder Wheel by Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbs=ww:1&q=search+engine+optimization&btnG=Search) and Soovle at (http://soovle.com/?q=search%20engine%20optimization&e=0&s=google,amazon,yahoo,live,youtube,answers,wikipedia) and Google Trends at (http://trends.google.com/websites?q=jcrew.com,+landsend.com,+eddiebauer.com,+abercrombie.com)

I have notes from Craig and Mark’s presentations. I will link to their powerpoint presentations when I get them or when the Pubcon Presentations Disk gets mailed to me. Again, a great session. Lots of Ideas. Lots of Work to do. What am I gonna do :) .

I am off to the Networking Lunch For All Gold Pass Attendees.
